Business planning
Our business plans are tailored to fit each facility. Each one is specific to your site, local construction and operating costs and likely patrons based on the nature of the facility you are planning. We acknowledge that a business plan for central Sao Paolo in Brazil will be different to one on the outskirts of London. And so we have our own business planners who will tailor the generic base plan to match your facility. The first stage is to work with our technical designers so that you know what products will be incorporated. In the next phase, our business planners will produce a plan that will meet the demands for you and your investors.
The following table provides an overview of the main pool types. Detailed generic business plans for two of the main pool types, "The Laneway" and "The Pro-Pool Plus" are available from SPL on request. These plans include estimates of construction costs based on typical construction techniques, as well as examples of revenue streams possible for these two popular models. SPL can tailor these plans to suit your specific needs, or can develop business plans for the specific pool type you require. As costs vary depending on geographic location, site conditions, commodity prices (steel and concrete), and local construction and labor markets, accurate project costing can only be determined after a detailed design of the project has been completed and an estimate is developed factoring in the local market conditions.

Local market conditions, proximity to large population centres, the proximity of alternative and competing attractions, the size and sophistication of the local surfing community, will all influence the revenue that can be generated in each situation.
- Additional revenue streams from sources such as surfboard rentals, surf school lessons, associated retail, amusements and restaurant/café income has not been included in this base-line information. SPL will work with clients to incorporate these revenue streams into the business plans prepared for each specific location.
- Costs that have been excluded from this exercise include :
- Insurance requirements
- Advertising, Marketing and other functional management support
- Environmental charges, district area charges eg. rates
- Water supply costs
- Depreciation and ammortisation costs relating to the project's capital cost
- Taxation
- Costs that are included, but that will vary considerably from location to location are :
- Energy costs (used to power generators, filtration plant and water heating plant)
- Lifeguard costs (rules governing the number of lifeguards required varies from country to country)
